What is the Go Green Alliance?
PURPOSE
• Go Green Alliance was formed to offer the opportunity for all environmental/ sustainability student organizations and groups at UGA to collaborate, coordinate, unify and collectively strengthen their individual efforts.
• Go Green Alliance provides an organizational structure for the individual organizations to collaborate, rather than compete, and to make maximum impact on the UGA community through a master listserv, calendar of events, forums for discussion, and special events.
OPEN TO ALL
• All student organizations and groups dedicated to preserving and promoting environmental well-being and sustainability are invited and encouraged to participate. There is power in numbers; Go Green Alliance is meant to strengthen and unite, not fragment and dilute the efforts of individual organizations.
• Through a united front, our student voices will be more effective and influential in furthering sustainability causes with UGA Administration and other officials.
STRUCTURE
• Go Green Alliance officially registered as a student organization in Spring 2008 after forming in Fall 2007 and organizing the first Town Hall forum on sustainability at UGA and “8 Days to Go Green” in October.
• Beginning in Spring 2008, Go Green Alliance hopes to function with the supervision of an advisory board of the presiding officers of each individual environmental/sustainability organization.
• Go Green Alliance replaced UGA Unplugged, which promoted energy conservation on campus Fall 2006-Spring 2007 and hosted UGA’s 2007 Earth Day event. Go Green Alliance and UGA Unplugged were initiated by students enrolled in Public Relations Campaigns classes in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
• Go Green Alliance welcomes the participation of University of Georgia administrators, faculty, and staff, and Athens-Clarke County officials and community leaders in achieving its objectives.
